Have you ever reached a point where you’re so overwhelmed that fantasy feels safer than the truth? That’s exactly what Jacob Lizotte channels in his new single Make Believe, and honestly, it hits in a way that sticks with you long after the last note fades. It’s one of those songs where the vibe, the lyrics, and the production all lock together perfectly like he’s pulling you straight into the storm he’s describing.
The whole track feels like a descent into the mind of someone who’s trying desperately to escape themselves. There’s this recurring theme of slipping into denial, trying to rewind time, trying to be a hero for people who are already too far gone, and the way Lizotte writes it, you can feel that internal tug-of-war. He paints these surreal, almost cinematic images: wading into dark water, vision narrowing, demons lingering just out of focus. It’s that feeling of knowing something’s wrong but still hoping you can outrun it if you just pretend hard enough.
The production makes all of that even more intense. The mix has this heavy, pressurized feel like the walls are cracking and everything’s seeping through no matter how hard you try to hold it together! When the breakdown hits and he calls out the cost of ignorance, it suddenly feels less like a lyric and more like a warning. The entire song builds in this relentless way that keeps pushing the message: you can lie to yourself all you want, but time doesn’t stop for anyone.
Even the repeated plea to “open your eyes” feels personal, almost like someone grabbing you by the shoulders and trying to shake you back into reality.
What’s especially cool is how tight the team behind it is. Jacob Lizotte handled the music and full production himself, and Jeremiah Culver came in with mixing and mastering that really brought out the emotion in every layer. You can tell nothing here is accidental; every sound is crafted to amplify what the lyrics are trying to say.
If Make Believe is any indication of what Lizotte is about to unleash on his full album Dark Matter dropping January 23rd, 2026, then we’re in for something deep, heavy, and unforgettable.
