MATILDE G TURNS A CRUSH INTO “GELATO”
August 13, 2026 by That Chick Krys
Have you ever liked someone so much that every sensible description disappeared and only dessert could explain it? Matilde G leans into that delicious feeling on GELATO, a bright pop-rock single that compares infatuation to the sweetest flavour you cannot stop craving.
The lyrics have so much fun with the metaphor. The narrator has tasted the world, sampled every option and believed she had already found the best. Then one person arrives with a love beyond anything she imagined. Suddenly she is keeping score, licking her lips and wanting to get lost in their flavour. It is cheeky, flirtatious and exactly the right amount of ridiculous for a summer crush.
The Italian touches make the hook even more charming. “Mi si scioglie in bocca” brings Matilde G’s identity into the song while reinforcing the irresistible image of something melting in your mouth. Her insistence that anything short of chocolate is a waste of time adds personality and makes the lyrics feel playful rather than generic.
Crunchy guitars, live drums and an instantly memorable melody give GELATO an organic band energy. The production is clean and accessible, but real instruments keep it lively. Matilde’s vocals move between sweetness and confident rock attitude with ease, proving she can lighten the mood without losing the personality heard in her heavier material.
The chorus is designed to stick after one listen. Repeating “sweet like gelato” may have you craving both romance and a trip to the nearest ice cream shop. It is impossible to hear without picturing sunshine, open windows and friends shouting along.
GELATO will make listeners smile, flirt and stop taking everything so seriously for three minutes. Matilde G delivers a carefree change of pace that still feels completely natural for her. This is colourful, guitar-driven pop-rock with genuine musicianship, a mischievous wink and enough sugar to soundtrack the warmest days of the year.
